Our Heritage
Chunilal Mulchand & Co.' journey started in 1925, when we first opened as a Muir Mill Depot under the British Raj. We then provided suiting, shirting, dress fabrics, dhotis and kurtas, and soon became a quality textile brand to rely on. As the years went by and most of the textile mills succumbed, we adapted. By the 1960s, handloom and home furnishing fabrics became our main area of interest. Natural linen and cotton weaves soon had company from luxurious bed and bath linen made by some of South India's highest quality mills. And thus, from humble roots, we developed into a brand that people, from homeowners to architects, designers and hoteliers, depend on for luxury furnishing fabrics and custom home décor. We were affectionately referred to as the "Cotton King" for years, a name that indicated our status as the purveyor of the most gorgeous cotton collections. But it didn't end there. We brought out signature lines such as block-printed umbrellas and canvas hammocks, both possessing an ethnic, handmade air. When fashion and demand changed, we moved into polyester, blends and performance fabrics, all while preserving the ageless allure of cotton, linen and silk. By the 1980s and 90s, our textiles were also being used to supply the film industry where they featured in major Bombay films of the era taking Chunilal Mulchand's textile onto the silver screen. Today, our range includes cotton, linen, silk, block prints, poly-cotton blends, chenille jacquards, embroidered fabrics and crewel work. Beyond fabric, we design customised furniture such as curtains, sofa and chair covers, beddings, cushions and dining linen all made to seamlessly fit into contemporary living rooms.
